Common DAQ session at Annual Meeting - Muenchen, 19/10/06

* Data format: It is highly advisable, that everybody writes his data
in the form of LCIO files (even at the raw level, if this is not well 
supported yet, we should push LCIO groups to  do so). This is clearly 
supported by Frank Gaede, Ties Behnke and also Roman Poeschl (of 
course, they are all already using it). But within JRA1, we will 
definitely go this way.

* Common data acquisition (was not really discussed in detail, I just 
give you my personal opinion): My feeling is, that every group is
using quite different approaches to solve the issue. From the 
complexity point of view, I think that the calorimeter groups should 
be the driving force if we want a common DAQ design. But it looks 
like this could come in too late to be of use for all the others. 
So we should probably try to agree just on a communication scheme 
(a fixed command format via sockets e.g. - this asks for a well 
thought out list of commands like START/STOP/RESET/INIT transferred in 
a common way across different platforms). Like this we could integrate 
different subgroup DAQs in a global DAQ relatively easily at a later 
stage (I don't think that we can force/convince people of using a 
common platform for example). Every subgroups run control should thus 
also be able to listen to commands from a higher level and react 
accordingly.

* Triggering: I made some publicity for the trigger box (TLU) we are 
using in JRA1 and it seems that JRA2 and 3 are interested as well,
even if some modifications would be welcome (TPC needs fixed latency, 
thus we need an asynchronous logic in the FPGA, David Cussans is 
looking into this). So at least at this level, some unification seems 
to be in reach.

* Overall in the summary about ILC software packets on friday, Frank 
Gaede pushed everybody to use common available tools as much as 
possible.

* Within JRA1, we will now work again on the design of our DAQ 
(defining a 1st version of the proposed interface above). This will 
probably take us till the end of the year, maybe we could foresee some 
exchange of ideas again beginning of 2007.
